9/10/2023 0 Comments Panasonic gh5 lutSo often the offline editors will work with the LUT applied to make the images look sensible (but highlights maybe over exposed) The Colorist may well work with the content directly to decide how to manage that additional exposure range. Applying the LUT (or actually the reverse LUT) undoes those changes. However to shoot using a LUT that does this you often have to overexpose the shot slightly (or you risk not using the upper bit range at all)Īnd of course the content seen without the LUT applied in the edit looks wrong. Theres now magic involved in this so what happens is less important parts of the exposure are squeezed into a smaller bit range allowing the more important areas to be unaffected or even expanded and or the upper exposure limits to now be retained and hence the dynamic range is extended. The more common usage is to modify the content from the camera before its recorded to optimise the luminance dynamic range beyond the capabilities of the recording medium. Normally this type is applied and thats it you now have modified content. That could be in the luminance or the handling of colour. The first and simplest is a Look applied to alter the characteristics of the shot. To correct something I said earlier: even HLG (as VlogL) has 400 ISO as the lower setting. I am pretty sure sooner or later you will create your own color style. VlogL needs MUCH attention from shooting to editing but as a colorist you will have no problem. In any case is very good to have VlogL to your Arsenal. If you were a colorist you know better than anyone colors.Īs you will see at the simple tutorial I made you don't even need a LUT for VlogL.Īt a next one I will show how to use a LUT.Ĥ) Keeping this simple for me, are you recommending v-log or not? If not, what else? (My first job many years ago I trained as a photographic colour grader for portraiture, so whuile I cannot name my 'style', I do have a certain consistent look that I like, which in the main is natural-esque while a touch more vibrant, slighly preferring magenta hues over red, and avoiding the obvious warmth of yellows as they often tend towards greens, yet overall I do still aimfor a warm look.) You can find thousand of those and all you will do is to forget what you knew. You can download the official Panasonic LUT which personally I do not like. The term LUT is a new fashion used by anyone. GH5 has a new Resolution with HEVC at 72 Mbits as I told you but it is 4:2:0 at 10 bit.Ģ) Please explain more about "I don't need it as this little machine can shoot INTERNALLY 10bit 4:2:2 in HD, UHD and C4K".ģ) If I buy v-log for the GH5, do the appropriate luts come with it that run through Avid? H265 (newer than H264) with the same quality but less quantity. It's a flat profile (but noisy as the lower ISO is 400) for (as they say) more f/stops of Dynamic Range.Īnd any other recommended comparables relating to flat/vibrant colour footage?Ĭouple of quickies (I am new, so please bear with me): I don't need it as this little machine can shoot INTERNALLY 10bit 4:2:2 in HD, UHD and C4K.Īnd can anyone give pointers as to what v-Log is all about, What about the Ninja Inferno screen/recorder (10-bit colour)? No, it's shoots mp4 and mov (which is mp4) and lower bitrate AVCHD. Remember that this is a serious machine even if it's relatively cheap.īut so far all the tutorials on youtube reference Premier Pro as somehow the complemetary suite (my phrasing).īecause Premiere is easier to edit on but not trusted for serious work FROM ME. Ok, so I am thinking of purchasing the Pansonic GH5, as it is now time to get to grips with my camera phobias, and this machine has had rave reviews.Īnd it did well. This is THE forum for everything with helpful people. I appreciate that this is not the right forum for the following questions, though good forum recommendations would be welcome.
